24+ Triple WHITE Devil's Trumpet (Datura Metel 'Alba') Seeds PLUS planting instructions, including a color photo for seedling id.
These fast growing Datura (Devil's Trumpet) have fragrant, LARGE, TRIPLE, pure WHITE trumpet shaped blooms about 10 inches long and 5-6 inches ACROSS - they are really large, the largest datura metel I have grown!! The blooms face upward and attract hummingbirds and sphinx moths as well as butterflies. These are excellent for your NIGHT GARDEN with stunning pure white blooms that last DAY AND NIGHT!
The blooms are replaced with interesting, thorny-looking seed pods that reach 2 inches in diameter and, when ready, pop open to re-seed themselves in your garden. The plant is more of a bush than a tree and reaches 3 feet tall.
Datura is a perennial in zones 9 and up and usually lives about 4 or 5 years under good conditions. For colder climates, grow as annuals by simply saving some seeds and re-sowing each spring or let the plant re-seed itself! Germination on these plants can be frustrating, as they take at least 21 days under EXCELLENT conditions. They need it VERY WARM and not too wet. Patience is required! I've had people tell me they call these 'compost pile plants because they seem to germinate after they've tossed the pot they'd planted them in into the compost pile.
Daturas produce several seed pods and thrive in high heat, particularly in humid areas each plant can have multiple blooms at any given time. They are very rapid growing plants in full sun or partial shade.
Daturas can be started in pots or directly in the garden when temps are suitable, they also make a wonderful container plant on patios or decks. They are easy to transplant when small, but more difficult once established in the garden.
The plants/seeds/flowers are poisonous if ingested.
