1 Buddha's Hand, Hooded Dwarf, Hawaiian Hearts Elephant Ear (Chinese Taro - Alocasia cucullata) - Small 'Elephant Ear" plant with heart shaped leaves.

This taro has many names for many reasons:

Buddha's Hand:
Buddha's Hand is the essence of Energy flowing upward towards the Heavens. In Chinese Folklore, the heart shaped leaves on the long elegant stems signify Buddha's hand reaching up into the Heavens. In Ancient China, it is believed that it will bring you Long Life and Prosperity.

Hawaiian Hearts:
So named for the deep green heart-shaped leaves. The stem, of light green color, is disproportional to the leaves, because it can be very thick compared with the size of the leaves.

Hooded Dwarf:
Named for the hooded flowers that the mature plants get in the fall and winter months.

These plants can be cultivated indoors, in a bright spot in your home. In warm months you can place it outdoors in your garden or in large pot on your deck, patio or poolside in bright or partial shade.

These are fast growing, but don't get too large, perfect for a spot where you want to bring in a feel of the tropics but don't have room for a large plant. You can actually control the size of this plant and rate of growth by restricting or indulging it with water and nutrients. By restricting water, it can be cultivated more as a bonsai. To bonsai it, allow older plants (with mature bulbs) to dry, or nearly dry, between waterings and keep leaves trimmed.

Cultivation in pots is recommended in zones 8 or colder. These are hardy in USDA zone: 9 to 12 (zone 9a is borderline for these plants; plant in the garden with care in this zone).

These plants will be shipped with their roots bundled in damp newspaper, but out of the pot. In order to fit in a shipping box, the leaves will be cut back significantly. These will re-grow as soon as the plants are established in their new home.

The main picture shows the 'mother" plant that these came from - it's about 3 years old.

USA ONLY.
