Philippine violet is a root hardy perennial hardy to zone 8 (can be container grown in colder climates) that forms an lovely upright shrub reaching about 5 feet tall. These bloom best in full to mostly sun, but can also be grown in bright shade in very hot climates.

The dark green foliage is very attractive and keeps a nice shape with little or no pruning, staying pest and disease free even in Florida. But it’s in late summer to fall (and continues into winter if not hit by a frost) that the real show begins, as the stems are covered with lavender flowers that last until frost.

Easily propagated by cuttings and also reseeds itself. This plant is a real eyecatcher and thrives even in poor soil. These make great hedges, can be used as a specimen plant or at the back of a border for a great back drop for your smaller flowers - then, just when the annuals are fading from the summer heat, the lavender blooms on these shrubs will light up your landscape again!
