12+ Seeds for Blackberry Lily, Leopard Lily (Belamcanda chinensis) plus planting instructions.

This is an easy to grow, clump forming, rhizomatous perennial with sword-shaped leaves up to 5 feet. Even when not in bloom, the foilage on these is quite striking with the leaves alternating sides up the sturdy stems. These are fast growing, drought and heat tolerant sun lovers (also happy in partial shade, especially in very hot zones). In the summer they bear a succession of many wide-opening freckled golden orange to orange-red flowers that remind me of a small tiger lily.

This beautiful perennial flower not only produces lovely flowers, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the plant is the seedpod which opens to reveal what appears to be a large blackberry, but is really a cluster of bright shiny black seeds!! Excellent for flower arrangements.

This is a perennial that is hardy from zones 5 - 10, can also be container grown.

The first time I grew these I sowed them in the garden in the fall, they sprouted in the spring and I had blooms on them the first summer in cooler zones, they may not bloom until the second summer.
